I followed the steps to create texture this however I do not have illustrator to place it.. is it possible to use this with photoshop alone? PLEASE HELP

Try using it on a layer mask.

Excellent tutorial, but I'm having a problem. Followed all the steps and when I copy/paste the distressed texture, the white areas are not transparent, just white. Tried what maeveparker did (saving as eps) but I get the same effect. Any ideas?

Why did you have to copy/paste? Once you save the .tif file in Photoshop, go over to Illustrator and choose File > Place, then choose your file.

Love this tutorial! Very helpful. However I just upgraded to CS6 - now the tiff file has an opaque white background instead of transparent. It worked just fine in my older version of the software. Any suggestions?

That's weird! Did you convert to bitmap before saving the tif file?
