CHAPURSAN VALLEY PAKISTAN

Chapursan is a very special place with strong mystic atmosphere, and the ziarat of Baba Ghundi even more. The Saint's main blessing is to bestow children on childless couples. the main time for pilgrimage is in late September and early October.

This is the Ziarat (shrine)of Baba Ghundi, at Baba Ghundi Meadows. This is the most important shrine in Hunza-Gojal area of Norther Pakistan.
He performed numerous miracles in the valley. The main one is a tale of sin and retribution, very similar to other tales in Pakistan or Kashmir, or even much farther for in Madagascar is a tale that is almost identical.

When Baba Ghundi first came to Chapursan (in Wakhi "what else is needed" meaning all needs are fulfilled in Chapursan), it was a green and wealthy valley but the people lived in sin. He went from house to house, asking for alms, but only one old woman offered him food. Baba Ghundi told her to leave her house and climb the hill. As she did, she saw Baba Ghundi riding at the head of a great flood that wiped out the valley and its people in punishment for their sinful ways.
Evidently a great outburst from the Yishkuk glacier did cover most of the valley with boulders and mud. The road Through the valley crosses the stream of the massive ice flow. Indeed, we broke a springleaf on our jeep going over the boulders hidden in the icy waters!

If you want to go there, be sure to hire Faiz and his jeep Bubul for the journey. Just ask around Passu, they well known.
