I am going to sweet talk the hubby into a tamale party next weekend =) I wanted to make the chili one's also. In your comment below you said you forgot the sugar. At what point do you add sugar? My family never did sweet tamales. My grandma always put a piece of olive in hers but I never heard of sugar. I know my husband loves beef tamales but I think he would call himself a lucky man if he had chili tamales =)
@napalaylasmom you would only add sugar if you were making sweet tamales. Chili in tamales sounds interesting. I might have to try that one. You are talking about chili con carne right, like chili with beans?
I just finished watching all 3 tamale videos. I am part Mexican and was never taught how to cook the food. I was only ever allowed to watch. Now that I am older and cooking for my family I like to cook the foods I grew up with. I have never attempted tamales. I looked up how to make tamales and watched a lot. Your videos were the first that made me say "I can do this". Thanks!!
@napalaylasmom Well, thank you so much for your great comment. Tamales do require some work, but try it and you won't stop. I learned from a Mexican woman back in the early eighties. I've been making them since. Please let me know if there's any advice you need. I'll be happy to help.
Thanks for the comment Jimbo. The combination of the cheese and green chili makes for a great tasting tamale. There was one ingredient that I forgot to add, sugar. There are many variations of tamales including what are called "sweet tamales", which involve raisins, cinnamin, and so forth. I don't much care for the sweet tamales.
