  • @TheCrackedmind you are absolutely right!!!!!!

  • it's very good that he points out that teachings based on commentaries aren't to be relied upon as much as that of the Buddha's teachings. As a Buddhist practitioner, we should rely on the BUddha's teachings and not interpretations, commentaries or abhidhamma. Thanks for having a good scholarly monk like this

  • @ruzickaw Now that you point to the "problem" why not offer a better alternative? Abolish all monasteries then?

  • Why should you call them competitors? They're not doing any business. They're not trying to increase number of followers. What a wrong view to see them as competitors!

  • Agree. Good to hear different views. But Sujato biased comments will mislead new commers. Yes, I agree, Jhana is not needed to practise Vipassana. But my point is that Sujato is not happy about all other teachers methods. All of them are clearly better masters than he is. He learns Buddhism from English translated books as he is not good at Pali langauge as all the masters he criticized. A lot of people benefited from Goenka's method and there are over 150 centers in the world. Check it out.

  • @Dhamma1100

I didn't hear anything bitter (from Ven Sujato) and I like hearing different takes on things.

  • @thunderinthesky

Many of these comments totally blow what he said out of proportion. Yes, there can be a strong grasping after jhana and folks can suffer a lot when they don't get it. And that's what most go there for. Now, that isn't saying Pau Auk isn't a great master or that jhana isn't skillful. Really.

  • @thunderinthesky

Ven Sujato sounds very bitter about other traditions. How about his own tradition? He thinks he is perfect and the gratest monk. He only learned from his mentor, Ajhan Bram. Look at his history of monkhood. If a monk has such a strong bitterness and conceit, he has demonstrated he is not a really good monk.

Actually, he is the one who is practising spiritual materialism. Those who he critiized where better monks , and they know Buddhism much more than he does.

  • If you read Pa Auk's book, "Chariot To Nibbana" you would know that the dhamma categories can be seen by someone with sufficient parami. Either that, or Pa Auk is a liar. How could that be fathomable? If ven. Sujato has not acquired the path knowledge to verify jhana, rupa and nama or practiced the path to verify that dhamma for himself, he should remain silent and seek further instruction or be satisfied that he does not have the parami to know and see for himslef.

  • Goenka always say " if you dont get a free flow, dont be depressed it doesnt matter, if your minf cant concentrated well, then dont get depressed just accept the reality as it is" :))
