Mine was broken exactly as yours. mounted the jack in the housing doing away with the phone connection.port. looks and works great I had to run a splice wire and connect it to the metal base to get ground.
omg i broke that part of my laptop too, is there a easier way i can fix it. If I dissemble that, my mom is going to rage on me. Also my wireless function isn't working either. The light switch turns on, but it doesn't connect to any network. I've been restarting the computers, but it refuses to connect anymore. Any advice would be appreciated!
yeah about the cap not coming off then if u will have to use little force. after u remove the hinges u will see that the dc cap is over a circular mount with top and bottom made flat, put a screwdriver in there and push them apart, inside the cap there are small pins that hold it in place, should come with little ease to the top and bottom, but dont put in too much force as the cap might crack, well mine came off just by pushing it up and along a little so pretty easy :)
Hey, the trick to get the plastic cap off the jack is to take off the hinges for the screen (2screws, don't mess with the wires) and then from the back just push the cap from the back, if you take the hinges off you will see that it is being held from top and bottom by small plastic pieces. Btw guys the dc-jacks that are available on eBay don't fit perfectly (at least mine didn't) and you will have to mess around with it for a while :) but nothing you can't do within 5 min :)
hey, how did u get the housing off the dc plug? I have managed to get the laptop apart and the screw removed but the plastic cap does not want to come off. Can you give any hints to how to get it off? Cheers

How do you get the piece that the port slids into. I can fit either end of the cable through the hole. Any suggestions please?
