Navy vs. Army. Navy running the Flexbone offense (NOT WISHBONE) and running the triple option play. Great to watch. One of the best football offenses. Try to guess where the ball is going. More teams need to run this. E-mail me what you think. schmitzm@erau.edu

  • this is actualy called the wing t offense wouldd be crap in the pros because it is built around fakes and in the pros there smarter and in college there just getting to the level were there getting more disaplined but this is not a great offense to run

  • @lewis8464 Wing-T is similar but its called the Flexbone.. the wing T has a double right (left) formation that looks like the flexbone but not the same...

  • why are u running this power rush scheme against a quarter defense? 3 lineman, 1 linebacker, 7 DBs.... duh!

  • For practical purposes. This was just an informational video showing what the 3 options are and how the play is conceived.

  • Mike Vick, Reggie Bush, Mike Alstott.

How SICK would that be to have them running that Flexbone

  • haha THAT BE BOMB.. but look at like Miami dolphins... Pat white as the QB.. Ronnie brown, Ricky Williams.. then like a good Fullback.. Eric Kettani from Navy should have been drafted!

  • Would not work in NFL. Defenses are smarter, stronger and faster.

  • @kbuchanan44 Exactly. The only limitations on such an offense would be the quarterbacks intellect, and how much of the system he can absorb. With the threat of a bubble screen, there can only be 6 in the box, any more and the defense would get gashed deep. Running the zone read or triple option you eliminate blocking a man or two, and then you have a 5 on 6 if there is a TE in the game, and a 4 on 5 if there is not.

  • @mcrdexfan Also, I like the idea of a no huddle, spread option offense. I believe that, eventually, even the NFL will start to implement more and more spread option concepts. The most important attribute for a QB in that system would have to be the ability to read a defense and audible to a better play, a la Peyton Manning. A QB doesn't have to have an extremely accurate arm if he calls plays that exploit defensive mismatches and get receivers uncovered. I'd rather have a smart QB anyways.

  • @mcrdexfan That's exactly what I mean! Imagine if teams like Buffalo, San Francisco, Oakland, teams that have a history of drafting QB busts used those wasted picks on good o-linemen or linebackers instead of QBs. They would be better off b/c of the useful picks, instead of wasted picks on QBs. Also, teams would have to focus extremely hard on stopping the offense because of its unorthodoxness. We saw how the unorthodox Wildcat caused issues for defenses.

  • @kbuchanan44 I mean many NFL teams use the shotgun read as a wrinkle of sorts, the Steelers, Ravens, and Broncos just off the top of my head so why not go the extra yard and install a full no huddle, option based spread attack? Every year more and more option QBs are trying to become wide recievers or running backs, why not use that resource? Imagine how valuable it would be to be able to wait until the late rounds and undrafted free agency to draft a franchise QB

  • @mcrdexfan That's an extremely good point that I had forgotten to address. One theory is that a team could platoon 2 QBs (maybe even more) so that neither takes too much punishment. I know it sounds crazy, but there are a bunch of reasonably good option QBs every year that don't get drafted. There have to be at least a few that are good enough or athletic enough to succeed. I for one would love to see Denard Robinson play as an option QB in the NFL-he's as quick and elusive as Michael Vick.

  • @kbuchanan44 It's just really tough to find a quarterback who can run and take the punishment an option quarterback takes and then be able to throw the ball around but I agree with you that would be the only way to make it work, otherwise NFL defenses would just put 8 or 9 in the box every play

  • @mcrdexfan The flexbone could be good in the pros, if and only if the two slotbacks were extremely good receivers. Ideally, a flexbone team would have players like Reggie Bush, who is (technically) a running back, but is a very good receiver. With that versatility, the offense could either run the option or play like a spread.

  • My highschool runs an offense with a mixture of Wing T and Flexbone. Very successful in highschool; not so much in the NFL.
