  • This didn't show how to train a dog to heel. It showed how to walk an already trained dog in circles while crouched over and dangling treats to induce movement.

  • if a dog trainer were to show you a technique in which the dog learned something new on video, the video would run for 142 gabillion hours.

  • you say that you have to be on the left just like a horse............. you are on the dogs right not left, whick is the wrong side for a horse lol. Expert Village do you ever get anything right, but the funniest one is the woman trying to teach " rise to the trot" she just slaps her front and back fanny on the saddle and calls it rise to the trot. i only look at expert village for a laugh , keep smiling

  • I have to comment because its been irritating me. Your dog should always be on your right, not your left. ESPECIALLY if you are doing this in the tradition of horses. Horses must always be on your right hand side not your left. A left-handed lead horse is unpredictable.

  • Jeez...does anyone on here know how to teach a dog to heel? Use the Koehler method: the dog has no place to go but to your left. First off, in a dog show you have the leash in your RIGHT hand.

  • this guys rubish i dont want my dog to follow my hand with me hunching over and it aint even working

  • Hi Jim I am sorry to tell you that the way you are teaching the dog heeling is not really the right one. If you using food than the food should be in the left hand because like you have it you are training the dog to come in front of you to try to the food. You should make a lot of directions changes so the dog does not know where you go and will watch you more. Then the lead should not be short but long. You can always ask my advice or call skype k9.alex Happy to help you out

  • this is a bored dog, walking nicely on a leash. The dog should be walked on a loose leash, not on a tight leash, because of opposition reflex, dog will pull. There is a difference between formal competition style heel and walking nicely on loose leash.

  • it's a method to start to teach heel, but in my experience, when a dog walks down the street it's far more complicated! and they won't take your treats

  • there are many ways to train a dog. Being a trainer myself i have learned that not one way works with all dogs.

  • for all: Basic Dog Training is the description of this video
