This is footage of gorillas in the bamboo belt of the forests of the Mikeno Sector of Virunga National Park, DRC, in which Mapuwa and Nvuyekure lead the nomadic family on their daily journey in search of food. The Mountain Gorilla is a critically endangered species and its habitat is threatened by the deforestation that is caused, mainly, by the illegal production of charcoal. The only people protecting the gorillas and their forest home are the park rangers. They track, find, observe and film all the gorilla families in the park every single day. It is gruelling and dangerous work. They walk quickly up the slopes of Mount Mikeno for hours and then hack their way through bamboo forests to make sure that these gorillas are safe and well. And there are many predators in the forest; animal and human. There are buffalo, baboons, elephants and, of course, gorillas. There are also poachers, criminal gangs involved in charcoal production, and sundry armed groups. To find out more about the gorillas, the park and the rangers please visit http://www.gorillacd.org.

He is a beautiful gorilla! Gorillas and orangutans are basically gentle creatures. They just want to eat their vegetables and live peacefully!
