I've had this VCR since 2005. I never used it up until a few months before this video when I finally decided to fix the loading mechanism from a parts Panasonic VCR.

This VCR required minimal work to get it working like new again. And being a top loader, naturally I love it hehe.

  • I'm pretty jealous of that rig. I LOVE the top loading VCR's. I just have a Toshiba 4-head Hi-Fi VCR, it works quite well I'll admit, but it's so cheaply built.

  • Although the GE was front loading but it was still from this basic design. These designs ran for a while and were very nice and configured differently. And yes you are right on the VFD's, higher quality.

  • I love it, it looks great! Been waiting for this set of videos. I had the GE badged 1986 version of those VCR's when I was growing up, I still remember the model I had, it was the 9-7100. I was dumb to let that baby go. It had the angled front with buttons that made it look all mod and kinda keyboardish. One side was buttons, the other was a door. It had a metal case and all. I'd love to find one of these old VCR's now and have someone restore it.

  • Speaking of VFD's, my Grandparent's 1990's Maytag Natural Gas Stove has a VFD Clock on it.

  • I used to have a Quasar version of that also from 1984. Unfortunately, it went haywired on me so I tossed it.

  • I have the front loading verson of this VCR, also a JCPenny Stereo Model and a Magnavox similar to this one. They all work and never been repaired etc.

  • Good work! I want your fixing skills!

  • @wilkes85 I too also agree with you. I love VCRs from the 1980s to the mid 1990's.

  • I notice that older 2 head VCRs have a much better picture quality than new 4 head models!

I like the style of that VCR too. It's clean and streamlined, but it still has that heavy duty professional look that the older models had.

  • Too bad it has only 2 heads
