Sherline mill running 75ipm rapids. Totally useless speed on a sherline but the home made dampeners seem to have cured my resonance issues.

  • My Sherline was a refit from a school shop class as well. I wish the Gecko drives were available back then, the Xylotex I'm using, like all of the other low-voltage controllers, can't match the Gecko's performance. Still, I get quite a bit of work out of my mill, ESPECIALLY since I switched from Mach3 to the Linux-based(and free) EMC a year ago.

  • So nice, i want to fine the software to make may computer cnc.

Because i am a learning cnc, may jobe was with old leathe machine en old milling machine without cnc programiring.

  • Sherline is a cheap machine, that can be a plus or a minus depending on what you need from the machine. It might be good to learn on because I can't think of another that is cheaper and is still actually useful but don't expect a lot from it because it is small and not well suited for cutting steel. These machines seem to do alright in aluminum but they are slow. If you can afford one the Taig cnc mill is an accurate machine out of the box while most mills of this size (and price range) are not.

  • hey im interested in a small mill and lathe a cnc

im at school for machining and want to learn at home too

i want to make small engines

let me know whats best to get

    nothing big

  • Hi, I own a Sherline lathe and mill too. I bought mine from a school yard sale and have been working on restoring/retrofitting it. . . Looks like Mach3 in the back ground there for control software. What kind of driver board are you using and what CAM software do you run? I haven't gotten my machine 100% working yet but I should be able to start cutting some stuff next trip home from school. Keep up the good work, enjoy CNC and keep the vids coming. Peace!
