Naomi Hamamura, featured artist at the Missouri Botanical Garden's 2011 Japanese Festival, provides a brief demonstration of Japanese ice sculpting. Sculpting blocks of ice is a popular art form in Japan, especially at the annual winter festival on the streets of downtown Sapporo, on the northern island of Hokkaido.
Hamamura will create several works of art live at the 2011 Japanese Festival taking place Labor Day weekend, September 3-5, 2011.
Celebrating the history, culture and people of Japan, the Japanese Festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden is one of the largest and oldest festivals of its kind in the United States.
