Lamar Smith [R-TX]: "The President made a promise to the American people which he has often repeated... However, when asked about this, White House officials told the Associated Press, The President's rhetoric shouldn't be taken literally."

Conclusion, core, crux, key point, main idea, meat and potatoes, nitty-gritty, sum and substance, essence, BOTTOM LINE!, as Dr. Gingrey said:

A) It's bait and switch, because when you have a government plan competing, the "health choices administrator" comes along and says to employers: what you're offering to your employees is not adequate because we've decided that it needs to cover x, y, c, ...and/or nobody in one year is going to pay more than a certain amount of deductible, so either you put a new policy or you're going to pay a fine of 8% of their salary into this exchange, ...etc.

B) Pretty soon uncle sugar forces all the other competitors out and you'd have that many more people in a Medicare/Medicaid like program. A single-payer government plan option is no option, it's spelled SOCIALISM = TYRANNY.

C) You cannot keep what you like, if what you like is annihilated by a $13 trillion deficit, bankrupt government growing completely out of control.

QUITE OBVIOUSLY, Doctor Paul put it best:

"The predominance of third-party payers means there is effectively no market for individual health insurance polices, thus those whose employers cannot offer them health benefits must either pay exorbitant fees for health insurance or do without health insurance.

Since most health care providers cater to those with health insurance, it is very difficult for the uninsured to find health care that meets their needs at an affordable price.

The result is many of the uninsured turn to government-funded health care systems, or use their local emergency room as their primary care physician. The result of this is declining health for the uninsured and increased burden on taxpayer-financed health care system."

  • he said they were going to have a single-payer national health insurance program.

It has already been determined that "single-payer" is off the table.

As well, what he explained at the beginning seemed like an extremely complicated system by which current insurance companies offer coverage.

Under gov. run systems from moost other wealthy nations don't have to worry about deductibles, or which doctor uses which plan. In fact under gov. run health care there is less interference.

  • "Under gov. run health care there is LESS INTERFERENCE"? You gotta be freakin' kidding me.

I happen to live under a gov. run health care sys. (Spain) that I FORCEFULLY have to pay to the tune of 250 Euros ($376)/month (minimal base). Private insurance would cost me $75/month.

And you know which are my options in using which doctor?, take a wild guess: NONE! HC has its doctors.

It gets better: the Gov. run HC is bankrupt, are you having fun? Betcha you're taking checks from Uncle Sugar.

  • We pay 3 times more for health care than any other country. and double what Europe pays.

You cannot get consumer information on doctors or hospitals.

US health care is the most deadly and expensive health care in the world. You cannot even name the federal agency that oversees the actions of doctors and hospitals because there is none. Our current health care system is anarchy because there is no regulation. Get a clue tea bagger.

  • @Balldez: Plain bullshit, get a free job, tea sucker.

  • I don't know what plan you have in Spain, but that is not a single-payer system like the one in Canada where I come from.

In Canada we pay a fair bit of tax and all citizens are given a health card for which they can use anywhere in the country and see any doctor they choose with absolutely no restrictions or gov. intervention.

It's true some people have to wait a little while for non-emergency procedures, but it's a small price to pay. we are trying to improve that.
