"Sink the Bismark" (later "Sink the Bismarck") was written by Johnny Horton and Tillman Franks, based on the pursuit and eventual sinking of the German battleship Bismarck in May 1941, Horton released this song in 1960, where it reached no3 on the charts. It was inspired by the 1960 movie Sink the Bismarck!. While the song was used in U.S. theater trailers for the film, it was not used in the film itself.

  • Remember the Swordfish Torpedo bombers approaching at low level, 80 kts or so, they disabled the Bismark and allowed the fleet to close and sink it

  • @ac130ugunship i agree, the swordfish pilots deserve a mention, hence the pictures i included in the compilation, cheers

  • Hi, Johnny made 2 version of this song

  • @starguard - the British shelled and torpedoed the Bismarck into a flaming wreck with every gun out of action and most of the crew dead so even if they scuttled it to make sure the Brits didn't board it I don't think anyone really cared. It wasn't exactly a German victory.

  • Great old song by one of the best..RWB

  • Do not forget the heroes, be they German or English

  • nice music, but not in the Hood was recessed from the Bismark

  • right the germans destroyed the bismarck partly to prevent it from falling in enemy hands. but who cares? the song is still cool :D

  • fire

  • I dont think the Brutish actually sank the Bismark. I was under the impression that the Germans Scuttled that ship to stop it from falling into British hands like that did with so many of their other ships.

I may be wrong (if so it wouldn't be the first time)
