  • TrwyrDrych:

    I understand,I thank,exactly what you mean.

If anyone wants to pick nits, that's fine, but if they try

to see a slight to Joan in what you have said, they are looking for a fight.

Levon Helm's version of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" was stronger than Joan's.

    Why? Because Helm understood Crackerdom.

    Joan is just singing.

Odetta cares about freedom,Joan for all her good (half Mexican) but still white heart, has

    no damn idea.

    NO DAMN IDEA.

  • I all ways wondered what she sounded like. I had heard and read about her only until now.

I just listened to her singing House of The Rising Sun and this Amazing Grace it's intresting to play along with them.

  • shes half mexican, so your wrong

  • Why can I not find Odetta HERSELF singing "Oh, Freedom" here? Joan Baez is lovely, but so very, very white. I appreciate her legendary faeryland-glass-piped artistry and heart - I've seen her many times in concert - but right now what I want is THE QUEEN of the civil rights anthem, and there simply is no other but Odetta who can claim that crown. That's the full, heart-driven, womanly, powerful sound I remember from childhood, rising and shaking the windows from the hi-fi, embodying freedom.

  • Fabulous!!! RIP QUEEN!!!

  • Is that the Holmes Brothers that she is singing with?

  • Rest In Peace Odetta.

  • Why emphasize the lack?

    Focus on the SOUL.

  • RIP Odetta, thank you, we love you.
