I think it has something to do with noise pollution laws and by laws. Such as why engines can't sound the horn in Canada unless it's an emergency, a signal to get out of the train's way or to alert drivers at a known gateless crossing.

@diioriog I think the rules are set by the distance they are from the crossing, so if it was say the "last 200 feet", then at this speed it would take a long time.

The mast on the near side of the crossing once had a wig-wag hanging from it. That's the old design. Too bad it's going out.

Why do the bells stop once the gates are down? They sure don't in Canada.

@ZacherYT -I dont know, its just they way they are set up here. I a couple of my steam engine vids, the bells continue the whole time.......
