On 26 June 1993, US warships launched a Tomahawk cruise missile attack on Baghdad in retaliation for an alleged April 1993 assassination attempt on George H.W. Bush in Kuwait. The attack killed 8 civilians, including the world-renowned artist Layla al-Attar.
A neighbor of Attar's was quoted in the Washington Post stating that the deaths of Attar and her husband amounted to an "Appointment in Samarra" because they were staying in the house of a relative while their nearby home was being rebuilt, having been destroyed by Gulf War bombing in 1991.
Please check out my related videos on the subject of the attack: "Iraqi Artist Layla Al-Attar", "To the Child Sleeping in the Baghdad Night" and "Conspiracy Theory/Incident at Missile City."
This song is the story of my participation in that act of state-sponsored terror back in the early days of this endless nightmare.
