Is the Christian Music Industry Collapsing?
Mercy Me's Bart Millard responds..

Question initiated by the words of CCM mainstay Charlie Peacock.

"The music business aspect of Christian music (labels, radio, touring, etc.) will continue to follow the pattern of the world, especially as long as baby-boomers and Gen-X people are in charge. The pattern is an increasingly unsuccessful business model run by people trapped in a system intent on slow, incremental change in the face of monumental cultural shifts." Charlie Peacock

  • Christian music needs to lead the way.

  • If "mainstream" music ever meshes with Christian music, Christian music will cease.

  • As of January 2012, Christian music is still hangin' in there!

  • Thank you for being faithful to your calling in the Lord! LOVE your songs! Thank you, Jesus!

  • If bands like Skillet, TFK, Kutless, MercyMe ect. collasped I would be so upset

  • @danieltx2004 What do you mean?

  • @ragingfury99 The difference is not in the business structure, it's in the music I would say

  • This is a discussion which I am very much interested in being involved in. Personally, I believe that different Christian artists have different purposes and passions in ministry and the glorification of God. I think that bands like MercyMe and other CCM artists make music that is especially written for an audience of people who know the gospel message and that is who they minister to. Bands like Flyleaf do a good job of making art that starts at the human level and thus can reach secular crowds

  • You can say "Jesus" dude. It's sad to see so many so called 'modern' churches/ministries ashamed of saying his name.

  • the Chrisian Music Industry is a business. your marketability is the first consideration. The industry targets Christians (somewhat becuase they all still buy merchandise). the problem always comes back to the heart. there are lots of great artists who really love the Lord that are in the industry. there are others who wanted a career as a muscian. God doesn't need the industry to receive praise. it isn't God's last hope on this planet.

  • Give me that old time relgion. gimmie that old time religion. Walk the talk. Let's see. Amy Grant- divorce. Sandi Patt= divorce. Most black gospel artists- gay, Jacquie Val- divorce. Jiimmy Swaggert hookers. Benny Hinn- fake. Christian rock music, lol (be not comformed to the world) I could go on for days.

  • @dmimcg you have absolutely no clue, do you? Bart is one of the most powerful influences for Christ in the history of Christian music. You don't agree, fine. Be tactful. Reactions like that from one Christian to another are why the lost want nothing to do with Christians. We are suppose to love and uplift our fellow believers, not tear them down. Next time look for the beam in your eye before you go pointing them out in others.
