  • Bret, these interviews of Sonny Rollins are very much appreciated. To hear Rollins speak of his association and repect for the great masters of jazz is important to document. Like Rollins, Hawkins never stopped exploring music. I hope this Rollins interview inspires people to check out his studio and live recordings from the 1960's.

  • @seulbzzaj Thanks so much!

  • I love it when jazz legends talk about other jazz legends. :)

  • Rollins, the Icon, talking about Hawkins, the Icon, and mentioning in passing, Webster, the Icon...

This tradition, which I've loved, and studied, and occasionally, participated in, continues to leave me breathless.

  • Very interesting !

    Thanks

  • The black American geniuses of jazz made a contribution nearly unparalled in music in the entire world except for that of the geniuses of Europe in classical music mostly from about Bach up to the turn of last century which defines the classical period. Of course the American geniuses drew upon the classical tradition and classic idioms.

  • Nice quote of the Man on the Flying Trapeze.

  • I'm with him on the "Body And Soul" recording - I have it in my collection and cherish it; it's really up there with all the great pieces of music throughout the entirety of the artistic achievements of the human race.

  • Thanks once more, Bret. An inspiring piece of film.

  • @bloodyblade87 : me three

  • Hawkins was and is the Father of all the modern Tenor players. It is great to see Sonny treating the Hawk with respect. It increased MY respect for Sonny....
