William Frederick ("Buffalo Bill") Cody was born in 1846 and went to work as a buffalo hunter, a U.S. army scout, and an Indian fighter, but his fame came when he headed East and opened a colorful and action-packed show called Buffalo Bill's Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World, which featured all manner of fine riders, from cowboys and Indians, to Arabs and Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders of Cuban fame. The show did much to make our American western heritage palatable to the American public (and indeed to the International community), and gave the world a lasting image of our wild and wooly American West. Buffalo Bill was not only a major contributor to the myth of the American West, he was also one of its favorite topics, as seen in dime novels, American fiction, Hollywood movies, and television. He died in 1917. The music is a collection of Western television theme songs, performed by the Boston Pops Orchestra.

  • Heck, I'm old enough to remember all those good prices. Of course, we weren't making much money in those days, so we needed lower prices. Hmmm, I guess that's what they mean about inflation. Money and its purchasing power seem to keep pace, no?

  • i take it your a big fan of the wild west! iam

  • Yes, it's hard to love one's life in Texas without being a fan of the old West. And I'm almost as old as the old West.

    Cheers, John

  • I have been looking for this music for a long time. I have it on an old cassette but this is better. Needs to show the images of the westerns the themes are from tho. I am a big fan of Buffalo Bill. He made his farewell tour through our town at the lenawee county fair. I have an old newspaper clipping of it.

Did you know that only nine years after Custers last stand, Sitting Bull was in the Wild West Show.
