  • Great version.... One of my favourite songs of all time.

  • I love it when Jerry (or Phil, i'm not sure) triumphantly comes in with "eight-sided whispering hallelujah hat rack". Just sounds heroic. One of my all-time favorites.

  • @forest1997 ARE YOU FUCKING INSANE

  • Choke on it forest 1997.

  • Furthur plays this sooo much better than the grateful dead. no offence, but i think the early grateful dead kinda sucks

  • @NeoSquadillah Hullo. I haven't heard of Alligator but the Dead have such a monster sized playlist that it is not hard to see why that one got through the net. I agree with you, The Eleven has got to be up there. I wish that Futher hadn't made their version although Im do see that there are lots of young people discovering the Dead through them. I wish you and yours all the best. Peace

  • I'm an Eleven Head. I've downloaded or recorded every performance of it I could find.

There's really not all that many since the original Dead only played it for about three years.

I have 62 versions of it, longest is 27 minutes (with no Space), the shortest is only 4:20.

    Both are great.

  • @sallymander57 Thanx for the tip sallymander57 Best wishes

  • Great version of a great song. The Eleven always makes me ponder why more musicians don't write songs in funky time signature (i.e. 11/4, or 7/4 a la Estimated Prophet, 5/4 a la Brubeck's Take 5). There's a distinctiveness and unique groove that comes from off-beat time.

    Thanks for posting.

  • it's funny, i never connected the name and the fact that it's in 11/8

    such a prime song.

  • If you do a search for The Eleven at archive. org you will find recordings of almost every time The Dead played this great song.

  • @NeoSquadillah It was at the Carousel Ballroom (later Fillmore West) in San Francisco.
