Rick Mercer
He is known as Canada's premier political satirist. Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, he first gained national prominence with his one-man show Show Me The Button. I'll Push It or Charles Lynch Must Die. In the mid-90's his he began an 8 year career with the CBC's hit comedy This Hour Has 22 Minutes where his Talking to Americans segment became an instant hit. In 2001, he left the show to star and produce another comedy program Made in Canada and in 2003, he launched The Monday Report. After only one year, the CBC moved the show to Tuesday nights, and Rick subsequently renamed it The Rick Mercer Report. Over the last 7 years, Prime Ministers Steven Harper and Paul Martin have appeared on the show, as well as Elizabeth May of the Green Party, Jack Layton of the NDP, Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams and Conrad Black. Rick Mercer talks to Catherine Clark about his life beyond political satire on this special edition of Beyond Politics.

  • "You can get away with it if you make your mother laugh." The best pundits and critics use humour as a weapon, and Mercer has it down pat.

This is one of the few people who could put fear in Stephen Harper, because his bullying has no defence against humour.

  • Mercer for PM [or Governor General... at least !!]

  • @gordonf4yt Why is it reporters like Craig Oliver who cover Harper say that behind cameras he is actually very humorous and polite, not a bully

  • Catherine Clark is like a 14 yr old girl interviewing him...a but in awe

  • catherine clark is so hottttt

  • Catherine Clark for MP!

  • cute stories...good segment, but there was too many cover shots done with this interview. You have a star there to talk about his life, so you don't need to have a reaction shot of her laughing or sticking her tongue out every 5 seconds...let the man tell a joke without jump cutting him half way through

  • Cute
