by Jeremy Holiday through Professor Rev. Dr. James Kenneth Powell II, opensourcebuddhism.org This excellent work by my grad student Jeremy Holiday demonstrates his many talents: intellectual, aural, visual and an empathetic ability to understand other cultures. He investigates the relationship between Trappist monk Thomas Merton and his Asian adventures, specifically the relevance of his meeting with Chatrul Rinpoche of the Nyingma Tradition. This work also reveals the Buddhist attitude towards those of other faiths who have attained some higher realization.

  • thank you jeremy. have i missed my old friend. i cut off my finger by mistake, the doctor restored it. both loss and gain made pain but i am glad to have it back.

  • We do Indeed dear friend!

  • @windstorm1000 excuse me should read 'withOUT' judging" Light years away from the Vatican and the Inquisition. There needs to be more rebel Catholics, ie the Berrigans, etc. We are better for questioning.

  • @bornagain841 no, he was an open Catholic---he was a better Catholic for having thought outside the box...why don't you try it on and illuminate your soul a little more.

  • @8432614563 We need more of his type. He was a visionary and TRULY lived the life of one of Christ's disciples with judging. The current pope could have learned from him--if he even knew who he was--by his actions, not apparently.

  • Thomas Merton did not die on his birthday. His birthday is January 31; he died on Dec. 10.

  • i'd say the narrator talks too fast, like it were a mere set of syllogisms. apart from that there is much anti-christian prejudice here and flattery to various buddhists...but monks on either side of the chasm of these two sets of belief are fully aware there are charlatans on both sides and people scurrying around pretending that merton through some amateur editing has dumped christian faith...the difficulty is when people realise we are dealing with two sets of definitions for the same words..

  • Very well done. Thank you.

  • THOMAS MERTON - A TRULY NON JUDGMENTAL CATHOLIC CHRISTIAN. I really think that he is talking about the TRUE meaning of "The Way,The Truth, The Light!." Jesus lives and manifests through all of us, christian or non-christian.

  • He apparently never thought of Jesus as "the way, the Truth and the Life". What a deluded soul!
