ex-Marine and I crossed over the Seine on the Pont des Arts and began walking east on the Rue de Rivoli towards the Marais District. Stopping along the way to gawk at the Hotel de Ville (not a "hotel" but the French words for "city hall"), children playing, and a Jewish wedding until famished we found a restaurant.
A huge advantage of visiting Paris during the shorter Autumn and Winter days is the fact that Paris lights up early. You don't have to wait until 10:30 p.m. What a sight to walk out of a restaurant with the icons of Paris lit up. Bateaux Mouches passing under the bridges, the Eiffel Tower in the distance and towers of Notre-Dame Cathedral. It just makes the hairs on my arms stand up from the beauty and splendor and one that you just have to experience to understand.
