Aughrim is in county Galway Ireland, the song is Irish origin and this has to be possibly the worst rendition I have ever heard

It's so good to find this song...It has been the sweetest song for me since I heard Ewan singing. He's perfect. Just blessed.

I like the version done by the Merry Wives of Winsor better. search KH/MWOW_Lass of Aughrim to hear it. It's a beautiful rendition.

From "The Lass of Roch Royal," one of the famous collection of English and Scottish child ballads. In this ballad, Lord Gregory's mother, unbeknown to him, doesn't allow a woman who has a newborn child to enter his castle. One way or another the woman dies, often searching for Gregory after his mother's lie that he was out at sea, and lord gregory dreams about her and goes out and dies too.

i figured. Can anyone clue me in who Lord Gregory is?
Very nice. Ewan MacGregor looks remarkably like James Joyce at the start of this clip.
