I may be able to add just a little more. In the late 1700's Nova Scotia was actually called Acadia. After a war between England and France, England owned Acadia, and had the French people settling there either hail to the English Monarchy, or be deported to Quebec(Lower Canada at the time), France, Africa, or Louisiana. Ellen's 5th great grandfather was deported to Louisiana. He didn't choose to. If it were not for the Acadian Deportation, Ellen DeGeneres would be Canadian.
