"Ain't Got No - I Got Life" Written by Nina Simone. Lyrics are in reference to the slavery and oppression of black people. Performed by: Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and the Trinity.

"Ain't Got No/I Got Life" is a 2:17 single by the American songwriter Nina Simone. The song also featured on Nuff Said (1968). It is a medley of two songs from the musical Hair, with lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and music by Galt MacDermot. The song helped Simone gain pop-popularity under a new, younger audience, and became a standard in her repertoire. It has been suggested that the lyrics are in reference to the slavery and oppression of black people.

  • this song is McDermott's & Ragni's from Hair, not Nina Simone's. Unless she added her own lyrics to original.possible.song is not hers.

  • This song wasn't written by Nina, she covered it from the musical Hair.

  • Point of Fact: This medley from "Hair" was actually written by that show's creators: James Rado, Gerome Ragni and Galt MacDermot, though Nina Simone did indeed have success with it in the late '60s.

  • What a great adaptation of Simone's classic...!
