Needing over 400 to force a second Australian innings, India succumbed for 261. It would have been a lot worse if not for a brilliant innings from VVS Laxman, whose 167 (198 balls, 27 fours) comprised almost two-thirds of the Indian tally. India was never in the hunt after losing three cheap top order wickets, including the prized scalp of captain Tendulkar, to be 3/33. Man of the match Glenn McGrath was the destroyer with 5/55.
