Part 3 of 4 in the series "Corporate Boards: Last Bastion of the Old-Boys Club?".

Since 2003, Professor Pat Flynn and her Bentley colleagues Susan Adams and Toni Wolfman have been tracking data on the 100 largest public companies in Massachusetts, looking specifically for information on the number of women who serve as directors and executive officers. This data forms the basis of an annual Census report, sponsored by Bentley University, The Boston Club and Mercer Human Resource Consulting. The first Census surprised everyone: 50% of the companies surveyed had no women on their boards. Unfortunately, not much has changed since then.

In the video below, Professor Flynn discusses her findings, how Massachusetts compares nationally, and why diverse boards are a competitive advantage in a global economy.

Patricia M. Flynn is the Trustee Professor of Economics and Management at Bentley University. Her current research has focused on the development of innovation economies in Ireland and Massachu-setts as well as corporate board governance issues. She has written extensively on women in business.
