Hognose snakes are masters of the bluff. If they want to be left alone, they will either play dead, or act tough.

This little guy obviously wasn't in the mood for his weekly pinky so he had a little 'hissy fit'. Western hognoses are perfectly harmless and it's very unlikely he would even bite, but it is fun watching him try to bluff us!

  • Good vid.

I have a WHN and that is just the way they are. They are huffy, as you can see from the vid they never strike with there mouth open.

They are like little puppy dogs 30secs after you pick them up.

  • @djgringoboy2003 they're great. I've never seen anyone get bitten by a hoggie. But you can see how they could easily intimidate someone who doesn't know that they are softies at heart

  • Haha! first time ive seen a snake being that annoyed over being fed! Since picking up my hoggie from you guys ive never heard a single hiss from him.

  • @liamh91 they are so funny. Pure bluff.

  • Looks like someone has a cold lol. I've never seen a snake act like that before, it seriously looks like he's sneezing.

  • if these snakes bite you, its only for less than a second and its no worse than a paper cut. The venom is toxic but only the slightest bit, not enough to cause any real problems.

  • @TheRedDevilTV these snakes ARE venomous but they are rear fanged and very weak venom comparable to a be sting but it effects everyone differently. they have to get a good bite on you and not jsut a "tag" to get any venom into you. ive worked with these lil guys for a year in college now they dont usuelly bite, they bluff by closed-mouth striking and puff up like cobras. hope this helped

  • Is it true that if they chew if they bite you, do they give a toxic bite?

  • first!!
