  • @SpazzyMcGee1337 They're working on it.

At the moment, they can't print electronics, but they're working on solutions to that as well.

  • ya, my company have alot of model gearbox, clutch...make from this printers, they call this technic is "FAST MOLD MAKING", just to prototype some mechanic parts..

  • A few weeks ago, on a Saturday morning tv show (HomeTime), I saw a model of a home made on such a printer; it had floors and walls and was in color. The model could be taken apart to show each floor from basement to roof. If you watch this show, you will probably see the model being used by the builder to show off the features of the house.

  • slow

  • The ProMetal process featured in the video is a proprietory method of 'printing' in stainless steel - it is very cheap compared to other methods The alternative to ProMetal/Shapeways is a process called Direct Metal Laser Sintering with a cost 10 to 50 times that of ProMetal, however DMLS parts can be made from a variety of metals, finished and used as final production parts.

Check out my channel for some 3D printed goodness, including ProMetal stainless items I had printed via Shapeways :)

    "useless"

Uh huh. Folks with limited vision said that about, automobiles, printing press, computers, aircraft, and velcro too

Realize these are merely the first gen of 3d printers. These printers are a game changer for inventors and manufacturers here in the U.S. One off manufacturing is now possible in a "garage" workshop. Retailers will have a lowered cost as no inventory is needed, just the raw material. Shipping and wrong orders are eliminated to.
