Mark Steyn, political columnist and cultural critic, has written a remarkable book, America Alone: The End of the World as We Know It (Regnery). He combines several virtues uncommonly found together -- humor, accurate reportage, and deep thinking -- then applies these to what is arguably the most consequential issue of our time: the Islamist threat to the West.

The nanny state infantilized Europeans, making them worry about such pseudo-issues as climate change, while feminizing the males. It also neutered them, annexing "most of the core functions of adulthood," starting with the instinct to breed. From about 1980, birth rates plummeted, leaving an inadequate base for today's workers to receive their pensions. Structured on a pay-as-you-go basis, it amounted to an inter-generational Ponzi scheme, where today's workers depend on their children for their pensions

Arriving at a time of demographic, political, and cultural weakness, Muslims are profoundly changing Europe. "Islam has youth and will, Europe has age and welfare." Put differently, "Pre-modern Islam beats post-modern Christianity." Much of the Western world, Mr. Steyn flat-out predicts, "will not survive the twenty-first century, and much of it will effectively disappear within our lifetimes, including many if not most European countries." With even more drama, he adds that "it's the end of the world as we know it." (In contrast, I believe that Europe still has time to avoid this fate.)

Muslims sympathize with terrorists, they vote for theocracy, they openly hate Jews and want to destroy Isreal, they openly sympathize with social / political organizations that do not respect the separation of church and state, and we are supposed to remain silent, while they emigrate to the west, and bring their tyrannical ideologies with them?

@m15tree I wouldnt say so, perhaps that change will come eventually once things deteriorate enough. Democracy doesnt make everything perfect for everyone, but the systems found elsewhere arnt any better.

I dont want to see Muslims violenly coerced, this can be avoided by respecting westerns rights.

@221Dw I don't see why Europeans can't bring the change if 95% of the people are behind it. If that indeed is the case then it would again point to the flaws in West's democratic values and distribution of power. What good is a democracy when at the end of the day small powerful pockets with vested interests pull all the strings? Frankly, western populace, in general, is more gullible than any other demographics anywhere else in the world.

@m15tree Well untill we see Muslim countries being diverse and tolerating others beliefs I dont see why we in Europe should be. I dont think 90% of people in the west want things to continue the way the governments are making a road for, we dont want an Islam dominant society, we want it 5% of population max anything above is unacceptable.

@221Dw This would be a dilemma for the West. On one hand you want to live up to your self-proclaimed ideal of diversity and tolerance of religion (and ideas) on the other hand you are unable to understand the simple basic, emotional and rational needs of a minority settled in your countries for whatever reasons. I am even more critical of Muslims settled in West and strongly believe in integration without actually giving up the core values with deep respect for the host culture.

@karlmarx1488 You'd better get started soon, or you're history. I predict that in Eastern Europe, it will begin. New Hitlers will appear, and muslims will be the targets. They should move out, before the camps are built. I don't feel sorry for muslims. They are stuck in some previous century, and must either join the modern world or be destroyed out of necessity.
