Mercedes actually licensed the design from Citroen for their 450SEL 6.9. So basically that car uses a Citroen-designed suspension. Mercedes also added a few improvements to it but the design and origins are from Citroen. Coincidentally, Citroen and Mercedes are my two most favorite car brands. These are emotional brands that bring a smile to my face with their innovations, cars, style and history. Lexus? BORING.

  • @Colleptic In the early 70s, several SM & DS were entered into the Marrocan Rally by the Citroen racing division. The driving conditions were very hard. They won top places several times. There is some period film showing the teams, with some impressive driving section.

  • Langweilig

  • @MrCanopius I'm now driving my XM with a similar kind of suspension system, and it's extremely comfortable!

  • Wow, I never new FLDetours had an episode about the SM :O I have an XM, and I really want an SM as well, a fantastic car :D

  • sur la sm, il y a un moteur de maserati merak : 200 cv

  • Citroen SM = Concorde of the roads.

I'm drivin an old Citroen with this suspension for nearly 250000 Miles and it never broke down and is very, very comfortable and practical if maintained properly, which is really easy and cheap to manage.

Rolls-Royce and Mercedes used similar systems in their most expensive cars.

  • @sandking0077 Jusqt as well, chances are you'll never ever get the chance to drive one...

  • I dont dont know wiith all this glitzy crap on the road theres gonna be a scrap yard of very pretty cars very soon as they are full of ECUs and with labour costs its going to kill them once private owners take them on,
