Yeah amazing Russian tech, much simpler than American - foldable elevators, whoever thought of that? carriers much more compact cuz they have no complex catapult system. SU-33 has longer range AA missiles and an excellent dogfighting missile compared to F-18's. Of course, US Navy has more experience and planes but still, these Russian systems are readily adopted by China and India and will one day challenge US supremacy

@TheTequilaShooter It have night vision........when it works....... Serbian pilots just did what every professional soldier should do. They defended their country no matter what odds they have. They did same thing in 1941 when few of them flew against hordes of nazi planes, and they will do it again......with both Mig-29 we still have.... :)

@monsterbnt Understood, however the Russian AF nwhere compares to the USAF with numbers or quality of aircraftm weapons, radars and systems. If you want to see how the latest Russian technology did compared to Western jets, including the F-16 and 18, just Google "For Heaven's Sake Don't Buy the Russian Mig 35."

@TheTequilaShooter But whatever. It was pretty much uneven fight. Serbian pilots fought bravely but they had no chance at all to even approach NATO planes. None of those Migs was fully operational, their radars were not functional, most of them didn't even had operational RWR most of them could only use gun, and even that was limited without a radar. I just wanna say that u can't use those fights to compare true power of russian and USA planes.

@monsterbnt One kill at WVR was anight by Captain Mike Shower on March 24, 1999: ""He (the Mig-29) was about six miles away and I'm up pretty high pointing at him when I took my last shot," Capt. Shower said....The Mig-29 crashed within 25 mautical miles of Batajiinica Airfield."

The other digfight kill was by Major Robert Renner "Cricket" on 3/24/99.

@monsterbnt Sorry, one kill was in a dogfight at night, and the other in the day where a F-15 and Mig 29 got into a spiral turning and the Mig had to come out of the turn first to avoid htting the deck and the F-15 got a shot up its rear end. The Mig 15 was more of an interceptor. It had certain advantages over the Sabre and the Sabre had certain advantages over it. The Mig 21 had the advantage horizontally and the F-4 had the advantage vertically with its power and thrust.

@TheTequilaShooter Nope all were BVR. There was no need at all to engage in dogfight with few Serbian pilots that could make their Migs to even fly.... In Korea Sabre never could match Mig-15 in aerodynamics and maneuverability, but USAF pilots were much better trained than Chinese or NK. In Vietnam Phantom never could match Mig-21 in dogfight but VC pilots could never match Americans in their training. I wonder how USAF/USN would look in combat with equal enemy.

@monsterbnt Wrong, I know of at least two kills both at WVR in Serbia. US weapons, systems, and weapons are better than Russia's, which even Russia's friend India stated after the MMRCA trials. And who says Russia planes always have the advantage over USA? The only area Russian aircraft excell is at slower speeds, which is not common for dogfights of today where most speeds exceed Mach 1.

@TheTequilaShooter In Serbia all kills were BVR and all against few (Serbia had total of 12) not fully functional Mig-29 in heavy ECM environment. I wonder how would they do against equal number of Su-27 or Mig-29 series. USA had advantage in radars and missiles, but with introduction of R-73, R-77 and new generation of Russian phased array radars that advantage disappeared. In aerodynamics Russian planes ALWAYS had advantage over USA.
