It is pretty hard to misunderstand "I would hope that it be the real thing" he is clearly referring to Salman Rushdie. BTW Islam still gets a lot of negative coverage today... perhaps it is because through the 20th and 21st Century it has directly lead to more inflicted suffering than any other religion over that period. Maybe the negative coverage on Islam exists because as a whole it is a very nasty religion. BTW I am not saying all Muslims are evil and the majority are not... but a lot are.

I really feel sorry for Yusuf Islam in this discussion, he is patronized by the presenter and comes across as very naive probably arising from his devotion to his faith. Sad to watch but his response is understandable: I think with the amount of negative coverage on Islam in the media in the 80s, as a muslim, he must have felt under fire, and so he has this 'under siege' mentality. I love him so much regardless. I think "Please don't let me be misunderstood" refers to this incident

I would never put myself in this manipulative entertainer court. Him walking around puts him in a lawyer-prosecutor dominating appearance - it is very demeaning clown-ism by the media and the individual walking around - it is self serving. Rushdie and everyone else deserves to live, but people do take other people's lives regularly and one saying he would not kill someone does not understand man kind.

i am really saddened by his comments, i only see his hate and disgust displayed for a man who's only crime is to have free thought and expression this goes to prove a point, Islam is not a peaceful religion as Muslims keeps saying. this proves that if he was ordered to kill by a religious leader he would do it. i rest my case this proves the Muslims cant co-exist in the west we are like chalk and cheese.
