  • Woops @ 0:43, the Viol is saying OUCH!!!

  • When you think how interest in classical music is declining, it's so gratifying and encouraging to see young people specializing in ancient instruments. All is not lost.

  • @fluffytom82 Ah, yes! The gratuitous use of vibrato is the worst thing to have happened to stringed performance practice. It is both distracting and grandiose.

  • @dolofonos Baroque musicians use vibrato too ;)

Only, they use it very sparingly, just as an ornament, and very light. Not that awfull wobble modern string players use all the time, most of them to hide that they are playing out of tune.

(do the test: ask 3 violin players to play unisono, first with and then without vibrato... you'll notice the difference ^^)

  • Did I detect a little vibrato action from 'cello muscle memory?

  • That thing still looks horrifying... I don't even want to imagine the bow control required to play it as well as you did at Hartford...

  • Obrigado,óptimo video boa informação

    Thank you,great video good information

  • Very informative yet concise.... are you using demi-filée?
