The 2011 Susan G. Komen Chicago 3-Day for the Cure began with an emotional Opening Ceremony at Northbrook Court. The first day's 22.1-mile route took us through the Botanical Garden and featured the stunning village of Winnetka and a visit from the Wilmette Fire Department - dressed in pink, of course! Community support was in full swing at every turn, including a gentleman giving a concert in his driveway, and Campus Day Care kids out at Flick Park. We lunched at the historic Mallinckrodt Park, and then walked through several communities as we made our way to camp at Oakton Community College, our home away from home for the weekend. Camp provided lots of fun and entertainment and the Canine Therapy Dogs were a hit!

On Saturday morning, we woke up early, ready to hit the trail again for another great day of walking. The morning started off with some rain, but the weather quickly turned sunny. We walked through Des Plaines, Mt. Prospect, Prospect Heights and Arlington Heights.

There was strong community support throughout the entire day including over 50 groups along the streets of Mt. Prospect. The Fire and Police Departments along the route, dressed in pink, cheered us on and provided photo opportunities for all! New Balance Cheerleaders showed some pep at pit stop 2 and Bank of America hosted pit stop 3. At camp, after some fabulous speakers and Youth Corps introductions, we danced the night away together.

Our final day of walking began in Lincolnwood and after some morning rain, the afternoon brought sun and blue skies. Chicagoans came out to cheer us on as we walked the streets of Chicago right to the beautiful Lake Michigan. Our picturesque route took us through Lincoln Park, past Navy Pier and Shedd Aquarium, on our way to a celebratory Closing Ceremony at Soldier Field.

The money we raised will help Susan G. Komen for the Cure® save lives.
