This is my Crosley 158 radio chassis I restored.
The cabinet is being restored by a friend, so all I have to show you is the restored chassis.
I had to edit this video in some places to keep it under the 10 minute limit.
So I was not able to explain everything I wanted to.
This is a hobby I have been involved in since 1959, when I used to drag old tv chassis from the local television repair shops, sets the tv guys would give me to learn on.
I used to hang around those shops as a teenager.

  • what does it mean when a IF tube when you first turn the radio on glows really bright then gets really dim when the tubes warm up and the radio does not pick up any radio stations

  • @loves2rock247 Most likely when the tube lights very bright and than dims down after it is warmed is because the tubes are wired in series, no power transformer.

As far as the radio not working it could be many reasons, no B+, bad tube, bad cap or resister, etc.

    The list gois on.

  • @old64goat I got some radio to come in it was the antana was not wired up but the radio is still very weak and the caps are not well labeled all they say is .05 200v and .02 400v what kind off cap is this if you need to see it it should be in my video about it its a Motorola c15 j25 all the resistors are also good thank you for helping me

  • @loves2rock247 Hi, As for the caps, .047 is the replacement for the .05.

You can use any voltage rating OVER 400 volts, I use the new 630 volt caps, you can get them from Mouser, AES, etc..

I can't help you with the model number because I no longer have any Sams.

  • Nice Video, I bought this same model about 20 years ago. After viewing your video i found it at my Mother’s house and brought it home. I'm going to try to get it working, i have been reading and watching videos in preparation. Thanks again

  • nice.

  • Thanks Bill, CRT testers can be pretty expensive eh? I am gonna have to wait on it. The lady i recieved it from said the Tv sat for about 25 years. I want to bring it back to life. There is something cool about Tube amps and tv's

    Thanks again Bill

  • Hi Kevin, Yes just because the CRT filament lights does not mean the CRT is good.

Check for high viltage at the CRT button (Ultor), if the tv is a color tv you should have appx 25KV, if it is a B&W set you should have between 14 KV to 20 KV depending on screen size.

    Bill

  • Yeah lol !! Show's you how much i know about tv's.. Is it possible the crt where the small board connects would light up and still have no picture? I will have to test for high voltage.

    Thanks

I am going to learn something here and i appreciate the knowledge Sir.

  • Yes you can test the picture tube, but first see if you have high voltage.

CRT testers can be found on ebay, but if the yoke lights up...WOW you have a shorted yoke, I think you nean the CRT lights up not the youk...LOL.
