Dr. David Newell explains treatment options for aneurysms. There are two main treatments. The classic treatment is open surgery to clip the aneurysm. Another treatment option is endovascular coiling. The advantages to coiling are that it is less invasive and avoids a major surgery. The disadvantage is that the aneurysm cannot be completely coiled and may require re-treatment. The advantages to clipping are that it is more permanent and preferred for younger patients who do not have other health issues that may become risk factors.
