Parents angry with Principal Julie Gonzalez' decision to oust popular teacher Kiffen Madden-Lunsford demonstrate outside Betty Plasencia Elementary school in the Echo Park district of Los Angeles, Monday morning, June 20, 2011.

Two teams from the LAUSD visited the campus on Monday to meet with parents and try to resolve the crisis. Although parents and teachers overwhelmingly sided with the teacher, the LAUSD has, so far, continued to back Gonzalez.

Madden-Lunsford is legendary in the school community for his efforts to foster an all-inclusive campus culture, involving parents--especially first generation Latino families--teachers and kids.

The demonstrators complain that in just a few months, Principal Gonzalez has used an authoritarian style to intimidate both parents and teachers,
bringing morale on the campus to an all-time low.
