Amidst one of the worlds worst economic crises, there may still be opportunities on the career front. The Reinvent Your Career Expo in Melbourne provides job seekers an environment to explore new career options.
[Myia Romaniszyn, Accountant]:
I came to see what they had to offer in terms of career opportunities.
The expo aims to give the middle aged working group a chance to look into a wide variety of industries that are all under the one roof.
[Ken Stewart, Security]:
It's more or less, it saves you from going to various places, that you can get an overview very quickly.
And although the sluggish economy adds difficulty on the job search front, many company representatives at the expo, say its a matter of finding the right organizations.
[Manjula Kulatunga, Migration Consultant]:
Theres a lot of doom and gloom, where everyones saying about all the job cuts, and theres no job openings and things like that, but if you look around here, there's about a hundred odd participants here.
Many people, through necessity, are now looking at their options. Expo director Nicholas Ricciuti explains.
[Nicholas Ricciuti, Expo Director]:
Theres obviously a lot of people whove been made redundant, who are unemployed, either long term or short term, its a good opportunity to reinvent in that situation, youre somehow forced into it.
Kayelene Connell, recently made redundant, seems to have found some helpful guidance.
[Kayelene Connell, Accountant]:
Theres people here who are willing to help you, and give you some further ideas as to how you can expand your career search.
It seems that regardless of ones circumstance, there is help at hand.
[Damian Cowell, Box Hill Institute]:
Ok youre mature age it doesnt matter, youre an international student it doesnt matter, you dont have, youve got a lot of experience but no qualifications, it doesnt matter. Were really all in the business of trying to help people find the destination that is right for them.
The Reinvent Your Career Expo presents choices some may not have believed existed.
