I caught this while my husband and I were at the National Zoo in Washington, DC. The gharial is one of the largest of all crocodilian species, reaching lengths of over 20 feet. They live in and around India, and feed on fish. They have over 106 teeth in their elongated snout. (How's that for a quick blurb of education?)

  • It looks like the guy with the stick is trying to choke it

  • whats this song called

  • @ZooVisitorMM yes truly is

  • @fabianlaraginsubtion Evolution is an amazing process. And the variety of body shapes, sizes, and other physical adaptations that serve their purposes so well is fascinating.

  • @ZooVisitorMM To give a a more clear answer.....Their snout is used underwater to easily catch fish due to its flexibility and length.

  • ive been to this zoo some crazy animals

  • I'd love to see one of these things. They are so creepy :(

  • Very cool to see this guy eat. I saw him this summer when I was at the national zoo but he was just floating.

  • I still remember the first time my son and I saw a gharial (at the Bronx Zoo).

We both gasped. Then we tried to figure out how it could possibly eat with such a long, thin jaw.

Thanks for showing exactly how that jaw works!

  • cool vid
