I only want to know if this oil is the same as the radioactive oil in Tennessee where high level radiation is comming out of their wells and they shut then down and do clean up. It is posible if the oil in the Gulf is drilled deep to have radioactive elements.

What an idiot!! If he were an actual Ph.D. he would know that oil cannot be radioactive. The soil from oil drilling can but the oil itself cannot. Listen to him speak, he doesn't know what a Geiger counter is! Can you even spell calibration, Dude? What's with the dark glasses?? I think you need to go smoke or drink another "something" and leave those of us dealing with this alone to actually work through it!

5 could be 500. This is about 16 times higher than background. It is toxic, but takes longer term exposure. The key is the TYPE of gamma scintillation occuring. If it is Radon, which is a daughter of Uranium, then it is very serious. If it is Thorium or Sodium, the half life is much longer, and indicates an older deposit. Radon decays in about 3 days. It pays to have a spectrometer to be able to tell. Let me know if you need one.

E-Bay has alot of cheap geiger counters & radiation badges for sale. I was really surprised, when I saw all of the selections! I don't have any use for one, except checking tarballs!

Thanks for sharing. I tried to look up radioactivity re: the Gulf Oil disaster and found nothing apart from non-mainstream sources...with one important exception...
