Ambassador James B. Smith
Ramadan Greetings

As the U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on behalf of President Obama and the entire American community living in Saudi Arabia, I would like to take this time to wish the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz and Muslims across the country and around the world, Ramadan Kareem!

As Ramadan is the festive month during which Muslims spend less time on the concerns of their everyday lives, to concentrate more fully on their faith, it is an important time of reflection. This applies not only to Muslims in Saudi Arabia, but indeed all over the world. The commitment of American Muslims during this holy month also illustrates how the United States respects and honors different faiths. The Iftar hosted at the White House is an expression of appreciation for the efforts and contributions of the Muslim community in America and beyond.

Saudi Arabia holds great esteem in the eyes of Muslims across the globe. The hospitality of the Saudi people during this blessed month, towards Muslims and Non-Muslims alike, reminds us all of the importance of inter-faith tolerance. It is in that spirit of tolerance and inter-faith dialogue that our two countries continue to work together in partnership. The recent visit of King Abdullah to the United States reinforced the significance of the enduring Saudi-U.S. relationship. Our bilateral commitment is now stronger than ever. During this distinctive time, I am particularly reminded of the generosity of the Saudi people and the richness of the Islamic heritage.

May this month of blessings be a time of contemplation and celebration for the more than one billion Muslims observing it all over the world. To all our Muslim friends in Saudi Arabia in particular, I extend special Ramadan greetings, as a further expression of our strong ties. My Ramadan wish is for lasting peace and prosperity between our two countries and peoples. Ramadan Kareem and Eid Mubarak!
