Recently I wrote http://www.gubatron.com/blog/2012/01/25/film-makers-the-solution-to-piracy-is... of how film makers need to get with the program and make their film available in as many ways as possible online (paid, free, with ads, bittorrent) before pirates distribute their films and monetize on them.

Here's a very concrete example of a film that's getting FREE promotion on yahoo, but the production crew is still thinking on a scarcity based model, on the exclusivity bullshit of screening the film, bla blabla. You're going to get pirated if you don't use the tools that are at your advantage. This is 2012, you have a worldwide audience to tell your story, how is it that bad to let others see your film today, no they have to wait? c'mon.

The flim industry should be suing itself for inducement to copyright infringement by sticking to the old movie theater and DVD models when people have the technology to enjoy films wherever they want however they want.

The estimate of $250k a day on Yahoo, comes from 15MM daily visitors at an average CPM of $17. I think it actually costs more, since yahoo said they had 15MM visitors back in 2006 and the internet has grown in users considerably since then.
