  • @sdkudrgn88 The e-mail term of spam comes from the name of the food brand, which been around since about 1937. E-mail was proprosed as early as 1973, but didn't become available to the public until the mid-90's, which is also around the same time we started having a problem with e-mail spamming. Somewhere along the the line, the food brand also became the term for e-mail junk mail. Peace, over and out!

Standards for encoding email messages were proposed as early as 1973. Conversion from ARPANET to the Internet in the early 1980s produced the core of the current services.
