License to Spill: Cheney, BP and The Gulf of Mexico

Environmental Attorney Mike Papantonio explains to MSNBC's "The Ed Show" how Bush-Cheney Deregulation directly led to the British Petroleum Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico, by allowing Big Oil to skip a simple and inexpensive safety measure that many other nations require. The BP spill was threatening the gulf from Louisiana to Florida at the time this video was uploaded. "License To Spill" was granted by his majesty, then-vice president Dick Cheney at his infamous closed-door meeting with oil company executives (otherwise known as "cheney's base").

Never forget, 11 Workers were killed in the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig that led to the spill. Remember that the next time you see someone driving a Hummer or an Escalade. Remember them as we pay up to $4/gallon for gasoline this summer, maybe more.

I suppose BP could have fitted a B.O.P valve but I think that the company that own the rig "transocean" (an American company) should have fitted one when they first started operations.

We can get off most fossil fuels within 20-30 years if we put a concerted effort into solar, wind, fuel cells, electric cars, algae biofuels, and new nuclear technologies.

We also need a new national smart power grid to move electricity.

We can use a carbon tax on fossil fuels to pay for it, and it'll provide millions of JOBS that can't be exported.

Europe & China are ALREADY doing this and America will lose out in future green energy technologies, if we don't.

We owe it to our grandchildren.
