A flag representing the victims who died on Sept. 11, 2001 was raised in Ypsilanti MI July 20, 2011. The flag, which measures nearly five stories high was raised during a ceremony at Eastern Michigan University's Convocation Center.
The flag takes about 12 people to raise and will be assisted by the Ypsilanti Fire Department aerial fire truck. Area veterans groups, fire departments and city officials were at the ceremony.
Ypsilanti is the only Michigan city other than Lansing, to fly the flag. It has traveled been in every state to date.
The flag began its travel across the United States in California where it was created by a firefighter and an American Legion veteran who both wanted to honor the victims of 9/11.It now travels throughout the nation via Fed Ex, which pays for the entire shipping process.
