Training Drill-2 is the FLOW DRILL or
the "Flow Fighter Drills" method. In the
beginning the student has to master the
first fixed format of this drill, commonly known as the Sumbrada in most
every escrima system. Yet, the Flow Fighter drill in Serrada is done utilizing the Cabales-Serrada Eskrima
counter system (which are for medium
to close quarter fighting). There are
total of TEN Fixed Format flow drills,
which must be practiced in their fixed
nature and not changed. Competition is
not allowed at this point, and only
endless mastering of the fixed formats
is permitted. After making the hands
fluent doing these fixed formats, the
student is now introduced to the Free
Flow fighting training. Yet, if you
used all the counters and all the
strike angles, it is never free flow,
it is always WITHIN the grid of
all human possibilities at that range.
Although, at free flow level you also
try to do half-strikes mixed with
full strikes, and using left hand to
deny the partner, and other tactics.
At advanced level, Flow Fighting Drill
mixes with Lock & Block drill. For more

  • Please note, that I dont teach using LEFT HAND in Flow Drill practice. This is so

for the first 3 months or so, everyone first

learns STICK vs. STICK fighting, without

utilizing the Left Hand. Once their stick

becomes good, then the next phase is to

bring in the Left Hand to try to control

the opponent more, and to apply disarms,

or off-sets, etc. BUT if I allowed a student

to use the Left Hand then they could start

    cheating on the Stick improvements.

  • @unclebraddah We don't really "play" with the masters... we get schoolled. LOL. But anyway, never meant to sound negative or disrespectful... thanks bro. Yeah, those masters you mentioned are great (incl. Master Khalid), but they all interpreted Manong Angel's art their own way, which is not a bad thing. The art evolves and grows. As for me, I'm a purist and like to learn it originally and then interpret it my way. I was schooled by a lot of those masters and found one close to M. Angel's art.

  • @fightingmink I think you've misconstrued my original post. My initial post is in context to Mr. Khan's assertions of this video. I've met and played w/ other Masters of Serrada (i.e. Carlito, Anthony Davis, etc) and completely agree with you.

  • @unclebraddah That's where the problem is... your learning an interpretation of Manong Angel's art. Much respect to Dentoy, but go on and believe that Serrada has fixed drills. Nothing wrong in believing. The only thing fixed are beginner's counters for strikes 1 thru 12. And those aren't drills. Flow sparring, counter for counter, pick flowing, espada y daga, rising sun, hmmm... nothing fixed there.

  • @fightingmink i beg to differ. this is a drill...hence it is fixed. big difference from free flow. unless you wanna tell my teacher GM Dentoy Revillar that he's wrong.

  • @unclebraddah Then you're taught wrong. I banged with this guys in flow sparring and they were lost. His drill may be fixed, but the correct way is spontaneous.

  • @fightingmink As far as this drill is concerned, it is fixed! Nothing spontaneous about this.

  • im taught 12 basic strikes, idk if this is different but whatever

  • Its not that there arent 10 formats but that this is his way of getting you to arrive at spontaneous blocking. Good luck trying to freeflow after merely memorizing the counters. you have to apply them enough to know when you have to abbreviate the counter and switch to something else. the ten formats just help you see that. After those 10 formats you naturally arrive at spontaneous blocking free flow.

  • Hello Khalid!

I hope you are still teaching. Let all your detractors show them thier video's and hard work. The rest of us admire your constant efforts to share your art.

Check out my little vid on Sinawalli Boxing free flow, This is Serrada's contribution to my personal development and a great way to train intermediatte students. It's a mixture of Serrada, NSI Modern Arnis and whatever works.
