In 2006 RMJM generated proposals for the Baltic Pearl development in St Petersburg for the Shanghai based Shimao Group.
1 million m² of residential and community facilities were designed as part of the mixed use masterplan
The site was 15km from the Historical city centre, on vacant land once part of Leningrad Park, and looked to reinterprate the old cities urban typology of streets and squares, with an emphasis on placemaking.
The architecture was varied and unique within each place helping to create identity, interest, and a sense that the development is an extension of the city, not just a homogenous one off development.
