The Piano Suite No.88.1-11 (2007-2011) consists of 11 piano pieces of different styles. Each piece consists of only the 88 different pitches available on the piano, and each of those 88 pitches appear only once. It is believed that this is the first time in musical history that this concept has been applied. Piano Suite No.88.1-11 will be premiered on 25th March 2012 by Jeremy Young in 'Infinity 88 Piano Recital' at The Hong Kong Academy For Performing Arts.
2 piano pieces are presented in this video: No.88.3--m r d & No.88.7--Waltz
"One day I started to conceive a piece of piano music, in which I intend to explore around the 12-tone ideas. I sat in front of the piano, stared at the keyboard. Then I got an idea and asked myself, "Why not I write music by employing a series of 88 tones?"
During the compositional process, I find that the 88 tones are complete to form a microcosmo, as to form a particular piece of music. A journey of exploration of 88-tone piano composition began, and this piano suite is the result."
The video is presented in my studio at JCCAC L4-09, during JCCAC Festival 2011.
